How the Dog Age Calculator Works

Our calculator is based on a study published by the American Veterinary Medical Association. It replaces the old "multiply by 7" rule with a more accurate formula:

For small and medium dogs

The first year of a dog's life equals about 15 human years. The second year adds about 9 human years. Each additional year adds roughly 4-5 human years.

For large dogs
